Can motorcycles use motor oil? Strictly speaking, the answer is "it is better not to use motor oil instead of motorcycle oil". I say this for the following reasons:
1. Structural difference. The car engine, gearbox and clutch are lubricated separately. All motorcycle engines, shifting mechanisms, pistons, cylinders, intake and exhaust valves and other components are together. Within this volume, the engine oil is common, and the overall temperature is much higher than that of cars.
2. Difference in power. Motorcycles and cars of similar grades have higher power than motorcycles. Another thing is that the speed of motorcycle engines is generally relatively high. We can see from the car that the general 4 or 5 thousand rpm is already very scary. The speed of motorcycles like Honda can reach nearly 20,000 rpm. Of course, what I'm talking about here is mainly natural-aspirated car engines. Of course, the operating temperature of many turbocharged engines is not lower or even higher than that of motorcycle engines.
3. Cooling problem. Generally, the engine oil capacity of a car engine is larger than that of a motorcycle, and the engine oil can only exert its heat dissipation performance under sufficient flow. Overall, due to the extremely compact placement space of the motorcycle's mechanical structure, even the cooling effect of the water-cooled engine is no better than the cooling effect of the car engine, which also causes the motorcycle engine oil temperature to be much higher than the car engine oil temperature .
4. Strength difference. In general, because of the difference in power and speed, such a high speed must be assumed, and the engine volume must be as small as possible. The strength of motorcycle engines is much higher than that of automobile engines. Because of the difference in operating temperature, the wear of motorcycle engines is much larger than that of cars.
Because of these main reasons, the operating oil of our current four-stroke motorcycle engine must be very different from the motor oil. Motorcycle oil pays special attention to the high temperature resistance, thermal oxidation stability, low temperature startability and oil cleanliness of the engine oil, so as to maximize the service life of the engine in such a harsh working environment. Motorcycle oil must ensure the thickness of the oil film on the inner wall of the engine at such high temperatures. Therefore, in general, even the highest level of automotive oil can not meet the performance requirements of motorcycles for oil.
